The Burnaby Lake Rugby Football Club (RFC) defeated Meraloma RFC in the BC Rugby Women's Division 1 provincial club finals on May 4, 2024.

One of Burnaby's top rugby teams won a provincial championship this past weekend — with authority.

Burnaby Lake RFC took advantage of playing on their home pitch to win BC Rugby's senior women's division 1 club title on Saturday, May 4.

The women defeated their Vancouver rivals, and defending champions, Meraloma RFC by a commanding score of 41-0 before a capacity crowd of 2,500 people.

Burnaby's offense dominated on both sides of the field, collecting points as fast as they did against what appeared to be a struggling Meraloma defence

According to BC Rugby — the provincial governing body for the sport with more than 7,000 players — "further gloss" was shown in the second half amongst a cheering crowd which led to the shut out-championship victory.

"The atmosphere was electric at Burnaby Lake as teams battled it out in windy but warm conditions," reads a BC Rugby statement.

"Fans, meanwhile, enjoyed the festival-like setup, with many picking up new and exclusive BC Rugby merchandise courtesy of O'Neills."
