SFU is hosting a youth panel on climate change on Thursday, April 9, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Burnaby campus. The talk is the last lecture in the 2015 President's Dream Colloquium series on Obedience and Disobedience: Taking Action on Climate Change.The featured speakers are Brigette DePape from the Council of Canadians and Tamo Campos, founder of Beyond Boarding. Both were arrested on Burnaby Mountain as part of the protests against Kinder Morgan's pipeline survey work. Campos is the grandson of well-known scientist David Suzuki. DePape and Campos will talk for about 15 minutes on their philosophy and approach to climate justice and how civil disobedience fits into that. SFU professors Stephen Collis and Lynne Quarmby organized the series, and both were also arrested on Burnaby Mountain. Thursday's event is in the West Mall Centre 3260. Spring gardening
Are you interested in growing a garden this spring but don't know where to start? Burnaby Food First is hosting a free workshop on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to noon on planning a garden. Kayla Gagne will lead the session with tips on selecting veggies and The event is at the Goodlad Community Garden, at 7912 Goodlad St. in the backyard. EPIC (the Edmonds residents' group) and Burnaby Meals on Wheels partnered to put on the workshop with funding from Vancity.

As a consolation prize, I’m going to tell you about an upcoming event the group hasn’t emailed anyone about yet. On Wednesday, April 29, there will be a workshop on cooking garden greens from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. at the Burnaby Meals on Wheels location at 2055 Rosser Ave. Volunteer Maya Thau-Eleff will teach the class how to prepare simple, healthy recipes using greens from the garden.
