Wondering what to do with all those goodies growing in your garden? The Burnaby Village Museum and Burnaby Food First are teaming up to present a series of free workshops on preparing and preserving your bounty.
From jam-making to pickling, these expert-led sessions teach participants how to make the most of their backyard of balcony harvests.
The series kicked off with a jam-making session last Sunday, led by Alice Macpherson, a master canner.
The next event is on Sunday, July 26 in the museum’s discovery room. Holistic nutritionist Suzan Anbari will teach people how to use fresh, local, in-season ingredients in nutritious recipes.
Interested in making your own pickles? Nutritionist and chef Andrea Potter will teach people how to prepare the perfect batch of pickles on Sunday, Aug. 2, from in the outdoor meadow.
On Sunday, Aug. 23, Potter will return for a workshop on preserving your harvest by creating low-cost healthy snacks.
The last session is on Sunday, Aug. 30, when gardeners Leanne Zmud and Lisa Schuster cover the basics of winter container gardening. All workshops are free and run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There’s no need to pre-register; just drop in.
