Five local teams are merging to form Burnaby Football Club (Burnaby FC).

There's a new club in town.

Burnaby soccer clubs Mountain United FC, Cliff Avenue United FC, Wesburn Football Club, Burnaby Girls Soccer and Burnaby District Metro Teams will merge into one club named Burnaby Football Club (Burnaby FC).

“I believe this is a proud and special moment for the City of Burnaby and the local soccer community." Burnaby FC president Guido Titotto said in a news release.

"It will be the coming together of well over 3,000 youth soccer players (girls and boys) to help grow the beautiful game here in Burnaby."

Over the next few months, the club says members can expect "little change" to current programming and operations while the transition takes place.

The news release adds current U-13 to U-17 teams will remain together with "very little player movement."

"As players develop at different rates, some players will move to a higher division and some players possibly move down a division if it is in the best interest of that player’s long-term development."
