Langara College will be offering collegiate golf in the upcoming 2015-16 season. The PacWest Vancouver college announced it would operate a men’s and women’s varsity program next season in a May 25 press release. Tryouts will be scheduled later this spring.
“We’re excited to be able to offer new programming in the form of a golf program,” said Jake McCallum, Langara’s Director, Athletics and Intramurals in a school press release. “Our golf program will offer student-athletes a new venue to compete at a high level in a growing post-secondary sport. We hope to be able to draw upon athletes from across Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, and other nearby municipalities.”
Langara will partner with Quilchena Golf and Country Club in Richmond as the team’s training facility. “We are very honoured to be the home of the Langara Falcons golf team,” said Kevin Cucheron, Quilchena’s general manager. “Our rich history of developing outstanding junior and youth golfers will be a valuable asset in ensuring our partnership with Langara is successful.”
Last season, six PACWEST schools competed in men’s golf, while four schools competed in women’s golf. The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades won both the men’s and women’s team championship.
