Saturday, February 15

Annual Treasure Hunt flea market and Japanese book sale, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The popular community event is held every year at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre, 6688 Southoaks Cres., as a way for community members to find high-quality second-hand items, often including unique and rare Japanese items, at bargain prices. Treasure Hunt Market will also include a Japanese book sale. There will be live entertainment, delicious Japanese foods and snacks, a kids’ fun zone and more.

Monday, February 17

Burnaby Parkinson’s support group, meets at Confederation Seniors’ Centre, at 4585 Albert St., from 1 to 3:15 p.m. $2 admission to help cover refreshments and expenses. People who have or suspect they have Parkinson’s, or caregivers, are welcome to attend. Undefeated, a documentary about people with Parkinson’s, will screen at the meeting. Info: Call 604-298-2983.

The patient-doctor relationship: Making the most out of each visit with your family doctor, Bob Prittie Metrotown library branch, 6100 Willingdon Ave. From 1:30 to 3 p.m. Popular Burnaby NOWcolumnist Dr. Davidicus Wong provides tips on the patient-doctor relationship. This event is co-sponsored by the Burnaby Division of Family Practice. The workshop is free, but registration is required. Salsa Speakers Toastmasters, open house. Meeting at the community room, Discovery Park at 3605 Gilmore Way, 6:45 to 8:15 p.m., featuring Carol Carter, the 2012 Toastmaster District 21 Champion of Public Speaking, “How to Use your New Toastmasters Skills in the Real World.” Whether you are exploring public speaking, or are an experienced Toastmaster, you will enjoy this event. After Carol Carter’s presentation, members and guests will enjoy a regular Toastmasters meeting that will include Table Topics (impromptu speeches) and evaluations. Thrift shop sale, every Thursday until June 5 at South Burnaby United Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be clothing, household items, collectibles, books, toys and more. Donations are very welcome.
