West Shore RCMP said the man, in his mid-20s, was treated by officers and paramedics but succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

An injured employee at a Langford construction site died Wednesday afternoon after being found unresponsive.

West Shore RCMP said the man, in his mid-20s, was treated by officers and paramedics but succumbed to his injuries at the scene in the 1400-block of Pinehurst Place on Bear Mountain.

Police responded to the call at the construction site at 12:50 p.m.

WorkSafeBC and the B.C. Coroners Service have been notified, police said.

Police said their investigation is continuing and no further details will be released as efforts are underway to notify the man’s family.

“West Shore RCMP extends condolences to the friends and family of the deceased man,” police said in a statement

In Nanaimo, meanwhile, RCMP responded to a “serious workplace incident” just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Police did not provide details, but said officers were investigating at a location in the 3700-block of Shenton Road, near Bowen Road.

The investigation is ongoing, RCMP said.

WorkSafeBC was also notified in that case.

“WorkSafeBC officers are attending the site and we have launched an investigation,” the agency said in a statement. “We are not able to share any further information while an investigation is underway.”

B.C. Emergency Health Services said in a statement paramedics were called to Shenton Road at 2:09 p.m. An ambulance with advanced care paramedics and an ambulance with primary care paramedics responded to the scene.

No patients were transported to hospital, the statement said.

CHEK News reported that the coroner was on the scene.

Wednesday's incidents follow a major construction injury in downtown Victoria earlier this month.

On Sept. 7, crane rigger Kyle McIntyre was working at a construction site in Victoria’s Chinatown when a 4,000-pound load of reinforced concrete and heavy-duty plywood molds for forming concrete fell on him from a height of about 10 or 12 feet.

McIntyre suffered multiple serious injuries, including a dislocated knee and three open-skin fractures on his left leg, as well as a minor contusion to the back of his head.

Another worker who was injured on the site was able to walk out of the emergency room.

The incident is under investigation by WorkSafeBC.
