Novice driver nabbed for excessive speed in Oak Bay

The 18-year-old was clocked going 116 kilometres an hour in a 50 zone.

An 18-year-old novice driver was pulled over for travelling at 116 kilometres an hour in a 50 km/h zone on Foul Bay Road.

Oak Bay police were conducting speed enforcement about 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Foul Bay between Neil and Townley streets when they spotted a northbound 2024 BMW i4 that was visually estimated to be doing 11o km/h.

A speed device was used to clock it at 116 km/h.

The driver was issued a ticket for excessive speed, which included a $483 fine for being more than 60 km/h over the posted speed limit.

The vehicle was towed for a seven-day impound.

Excessive speed penalties kick in when vehicles are driver at more than 40 km/h over the limit.
