One person was taken to hospital after a Friday night house fire in downtown Port Alberni.
Two people managed to get out of the 7th Avenue home before fire crews responded about 6:40 p.m., said Port Alberni Fire Chief Mike Owens.
When crews arrived at the scene, there was “heavy fire” at the front and side of the building, Owens said.
The condition of the hospitalized person was not available.
Damage to the home was significant.
More than 20 firefighters were at the fire, including crews from the Beaver Creek, Cherry Creek and Sproat Lake fire departments.
Emergency Social Services arranged a hotel stay for the uninjured occupant, Owens said.
