Burnaby construction workers urged to ‘just show up’ for drop-in COVID-19 vaccine clinics

No registration needed for construction workers

A new campaign has been organized to get more Burnaby construction workers vaccinated against COVID-19.

This includes a series of vaccination clinics promoted by building trades groups in which the workers don’t have to book a time – with a poster saying they can “just show up.”

The clinics are for first doses only and take place in Burnaby from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Christine Sinclair Community Centre on Kensington Avenue on June 24, 25 and 30, and July 8 and 9.

“Wear your hard hat or bring your site access card or other construction ID,” says the poster. “No registration needed.”

It was six months ago this week, that the province administered its first dose of vaccine. Since December 16, officials have jabbed arms 4,165,142 times, with 3,454,295 of those being first doses and 710,847 being needed second doses.

Provincial officials and pharmacists provided a combined total of 62,237 doses of vaccine in the past day, with 8,881 of those going to unvaccinated people, with the remaining 53,356 being needed second doses. While this is a substantial number of second doses, the record number of such doses in a day was on June 7, when officials provided 57,521 second doses.

"Getting fully immunized is the best way for us to put the COVID-19 pandemic behind us," said a B.C. government news release. "It is how we protect our family and friends, the people at our favourite store or local theatre, as well as the communities we want to visit this summer."
