NOTE: Candidate Graham Bowers was confirmed as a registered candidate after our deadline on an initial meet-and-greet questionnaire to candidates had passed. In lieu of that questionnaire, Bowers is introducing himself to voters with this bio:
Graham Bowers, B.C. Conservative Party
Graham Bowers, 53, is a high school math teacher who has lived in Burnaby-Deer Lake for 10 years and in the Lower Mainland for 29 years. With experience in both the private and the public sector, and having negotiated labour contracts on both sides of the table, Graham brings a balanced and moderate perspective to issues.
Born in Chilliwack, Graham also grew up in New Brunswick and Alberta, before returning to this province in 1988. He studied political science at the University of Alberta before completing a History degree at SFU and an education degree at UBC, and sat on the student council of all three universities. In addition to his native English, Graham also speaks a smattering of French and Spanish, and even learned a few words of Punjabi from his mother-in-law.
Graham leads a divorce recovery group at Broadway Church in Vancouver called DivorceCare. He also leads a personal change ministry there called The Genesis Process. This program combines biblical principles with the latest scientific research into addictive behaviours in order to help people overcome any bad habit that leaves them feeling “stuck” in their personal life. And he leads a team of volunteers on an annual missions trip to an orphanage in Vicente Guerrero, Mexico. Fans of Broadway’s Singing Christmas Tree remember him as the senior “elf” at the toy factory in 2015.
He has two children. His daughter, Beth, is a law student at Michigan State University and his son, Chris, is a grade 12 student at Moscrop Secondary School and plans to study general sciences at Langara College beginning in September.
