There’s a new candidate in Burnaby, a latecomer whose name strikes fear in hearts across the galaxy.
Darth Vader of Star Wars fame is apparently running in Burnaby North-Seymour, as evidenced by an election sign in the new riding.
Local resident Catriona Campbell spotted the sign on a yard on Underhill Avenue on Sunday Oct. 4 and forced her husband out of the car to take a photo. Vader’s sign reads “Together. We can rule the galaxy,” and he’s running for Your Galactic Empire.
“At first I was excited,” Campbell told the NOW. “Vader showed a lot of promise in his early political career. Now I am questioning his intentions, and I’m quite concerned. Why is the sign so close to the Kinder Morgan property? Is he planning to run a new intergalactic pipeline directly to the Death Star? Has anyone questioned him about his party's role in the destruction of Alderaan?”
It’s not clear where Vader sits on the political spectrum or what his views are on the Kinder Morgan pipeline, as the NOW could not reach him for comment by press time. Campbell also Tweeted at NDP candidate Carol Ellan Baird, asking for her thoughts on her totalitarian opponent’s track record. Baird Ellan replied stating “like CPC Mike Little he is mostly an empty chair.”
The Darth Vader signs are actually the brainchild of Nicholas Gorissen, a musician, artist and game developer from Ontario. Since he started making them in August, the signs have been stolen and are popping up in various locations, but this is the furthest out west they’ve been seen. It’s also not clear if the Burnaby Darth Vader sign is a Gorissen original or a copy.
