An 18-year-old novice driver was fined after she was found going 50 kilometres an hour over the speed limit on Beach Drive, say Oak Bay police.

Oak Bay police said officers conducting road checks in the area of Beach Drive and Newport Avenue observed a northbound Porsche travelling at high speed on Wednesday evening.

Police said readings on a speed radar found the vehicle travelling 90 km/h in a 40 km/h zone.

Officers issued the driver with a $368 violation ticket for excessive speeding. The vehicle, a 2024 Porsche Macan, was towed and impounded for a week.

The driver’s father, the registered vehicle owner, was in the passenger seat of the car when officers flagged the driver down, police said.
