Lawyers are asking a B.C. Provincial Court judge for 311 days in jail for one of two men charged following a home invasion at a Downtown Eastside rooming house in July 2023.

Steven Flett and Dustin Gastl were charged with breaking and entering, robbery, unlawful confinement, assault causing bodily harm, and possession of a weapon after they allegedly forced their way into the suite of a 60-year-old man at East Hastings and Gore on July 5.

According to Vancouver police, the pair allegedly "violently beat him" and stole various possessions.

The victim was taken to hospital for his injuries.

Flett appeared before Judge Ellen Gordon on Aug. 26.

She heard there would be a joint position on sentence. Gordon also heard various pre-sentencing reports remain outstanding.

The status of Gastl’s case cannot be determined as court registry staff had restricted access to the file.
