A pleasant forecast: Summer-like weather expected for Metro Vancouver

Temperatures could be in the low-20s by next weekend

Blue skies are expected soon over Vancouver.

After a couple of days of light showers, Vancouverites can expect to get a very nice weekend next weekend.

"The first three days (of the week) are mainly on-and-off showers," says Environment Canada's Yimei Li.

However, by the middle of the week, the precipitation should fade for a little while, and a ridge of high pressure is expected to keep the skies above Metro Vancouver relatively cloud-free for the first weekend of April.

First, April showers

While Sunday, March 30, will remain sunny for now, the evening of March 30 is expected to see a system of showers roll through the Lower Mainland, coming up from the U.S.

"For Monday we still have a 60 per cent chance of showers," says Li. "Tuesday looks like a relatively dry day, but Tuesday night to Wednesday there's a chance of showers."

Through the first three days of the week, temperatures will remain stable, with highs between 10 C and 12 C and lows of 5 C.

"I don't think there's anything too concerning," says Li of the beginning of the week. "For anyone heading up to Whistler early in the week, there could be flurries."

Then, April sun

"Beyond Wednesday into Thursday, we're looking at some clearing trends," Li adds.

Thursday is forecast to be a transitional day. While there will be clear skies, it will remain cooler, with a high of 12 C and a low (thanks to the clear skies) of 2 C.

However, things are expected to change heading into the weekend.

"We have a ridge of high pressure building, starting Friday and into the weekend," says Li.

That's expected to create a weekend with blue skies and temperatures as high as the low 20s across Metro Vancouver.

"There's pretty good agreement in the models, so the confidence is pretty good," says Li.
