Surrey RCMP report two men have been charged after shots were fired in the Guildford area — a case in which an officer had a gun pointed at him in an attempt to stop a fleeing vehicle Dec. 29.
Mounties said officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 101 Avenue and 156 Street. Two male suspects fled the area in a blue Range Rover.
Police said that, as they attempted to stop the vehicle, one of the suspects allegedly pointed a firearm at a police officer.
The suspects were arrested in the area of 198 Street and 57 Avenue in Langley with assistance from Surrey Traffic Services, Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services, the Air 1 helicopter and Langley RCMP.
Roman Arinder Gill, 24, has been charged with discharging a firearm, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Shaun Narinder Gill , 28, has been charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
RCMP said the men are known to police and have alleged gang connections.
Both have been remanded in custody pending a bail appearance on Jan. 3 in Surrey Provincial Court.
“Thankfully, no one was injured during this brazen incident," said Staff Sgt. Ian MacLellan of the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit.
“We understand shootings put the community on edge and we too find this level of violence to be unnerving,” he added in a statement. “Our team of investigators with the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit have worked non-stop to pursue these charges against the suspects.”
