Investigators heading to fatal plane crash site near Chilliwack

A team of investigators with the Transportation Safety Board is being deployed following a fatal crash on Saturday.

Investigators with the Transportation Safety Board are heading to the site of a fatal plane crash near Chilliwack. 

Two people were on board a single-engine Cessna 172 on April 5 when it crashed. 

Chilliwack RCMP were called at 3:30 p.m. about the plane crash, located roughly eight kilometres east of Chilliwack Lake. 

The two people on the plane were found dead by Chilliwack Search and Rescue members. 

On April 8, the TSB said it's deploying a team of investigators following the fatal crash. 

"The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence,” said a spokesperson. 

According to the TSB, its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not TSB’s mandate to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability. 

No further details about the people on board are being released at this time. 

The investigation remains ongoing.
