The case of a man charged with four Vancouver sexual assaults moved closer to trial Wednesday as a pre-trial conference was held in Vancouver Provincial Court.

The pre-trial conference was held behind closed doors, with Judge James Sutherland presiding and lawyer Ed Cooper representing the 46-year-old accused.

Pre-trial conferences are generally held when a person has pleaded not guilty to a charge.

However, court documents do not indicate what plea has been entered in the case.

The charges relate to four different women in Vancouver from incidents alleged to have occurred in July 2009, November 2009, June 2010 December 2010.

Documents said trial is due to start April 8.

The names of the women are covered by a publication ban.
