Capitals goalie Logan Thompson leaves game at Hurricanes because of injury. He'll be reevaluated

RALEIGH, N.C.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Logan Thompson left the Washington Capitals’ game at the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night with what the team called an upper-body injury, and coach Spencer Carbery did not provide much of an update on the goaltender's status after a 5-1 loss.

“He will be reevaluated when we get back to Washington," Carbery said.

Charlie Lindgren took over in net to start the second period, after Thompson allowed three goals on 12 shots in the first. It was not clear when or how Thompson was injured.

Thompson, 28, may be among the finalists for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender after winning 31 of his first 42 appearances in his first season with Washington. He was rewarded with a six-year, $35.1 million contract extension signed in late January.

Lindgren had to play back-to-back nights after backstopping the Eastern Conference-leading Capitals to a victory Tuesday at Boston. After replacing Thompson against the Hurricanes, Lindgren allowed two goals on the 19 shots he faced.
