Burnaby celebrates Canada Day

The Burnaby Village Museum is hosting the city's official Canada Day celebration on Tuesday, July 1, with heritage games, a parade and bagpipes. Set against the museum's 1920s backdrop, the celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

When it comes to Canada Day, Burnaby Village Museum knows how to throw a party. This year, there will be cupcakes, RCMP in red serge, bagpipes and more.

 

The Burnaby Village Museum is hosting the city's official Canada Day celebration on Tuesday, July 1, with heritage games, a parade and bagpipes. 
Set against the museum's 1920s backdrop, the celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
There will be live music (flamenco, jazz, Chinese lute and ukulele), a sword fighting demonstration, face painting, heritage games and red velvet cupcakes. The Burnaby RCMP will be there, wearing red serge. 
Admission is free, and rides on the vintage carousel are $2.50. 
The Burnaby Village Museum is at 6501 Deer Lake Ave. 
But that's not the only party in town. The Edmonds Community Centre is marking Canada Day with a free celebration that includes the official opening of the park's plaza, a spacious outdoor area people can use for gatherings, picnics or even music performances. The Edmonds Park event starts at 11 a.m. and runs till 2:30 p.m. 
There will be games, activities, multicultural entertainment and food, and there is a flash mob people can join. For more information on that, call the Edmonds Community Centre at 604-297-4838.
