Looking for some free entertainment?
The City of Burnaby is offering some ways to celebrate the summer with the return of free outdoor movie nights at Civic Square and a free live concert series scheduled to kick off in August.
Top-notch musicians and entertainers, including roots-based rockers Petunia and The Vipers (Aug. 7), three-time JUNO award-winner Guinean-born guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Alpha Yaya Diallo (Aug. 14), Vancouver soul dynamo Dawn Pemberton (Aug. 28), indie soul band The Boom Booms (Sept. 4) and many more will take the stage as part of the city’s newest music series — Summer Stages.
Concerts will take place multiple times per week at Confederation Park (4585 Albert St.), Edmonds Park (7433 Humphries Ave.), and Civic Square (6100 Willingdon Ave.) beginning on Aug. 5.

August will also mark the return of Burnaby’s movie series at Civic Square outside the Bob Prittie Library at Metrotown. Every Friday, families can enjoy movies such as Abominable (Aug. 6), Angry Birds 2: The Movie (Aug. 13), The Secret Life of Pets 2 (Aug. 20), Despicable Me 3 (Aug. 27) and Trolls World Tour (Sept. 3).
