If you’ve never gotten up close and personal with a Mountie wearing his or her iconic scarlet tunic, brown campaign hat, blue breeches and tall leather boots, here’s your chance.
Every Thursday through July and August, three or four Burnaby RCMP members in dress uniform will once again be on hand to mix and mingle with visitors at Burnaby Village Museum from 1 to 2 p.m. for Red Serge Thursdays.
The local detachment has participated in the weekly summer events since 2016 to give people a chance to take selfies, ask questions about the significance of the Red Serge and generally learn more about what policing in Burnaby is all about.
The response has been “overwhelmingly positive,” according to the Burnaby RCMP.
“We have had tourists take pictures who have never had an opportunity to meet a Mountie,” spokesperson Daniela Panesar said. “We have had police officers from other countries such as Greece and the USA who have attended solely to get a picture with a member in Red Serge.”
Lots of local families come out to the museum too, Panesar said, making it a great way for local Mounties to connect with the community.
