City staffers retiring

More than a dozen staff members bid farewell to city hall

Thirteen former city employees received a letter from Mayor Derek Corrigan thanking them for many years of service to the community.

The baker's dozen retired between July and December 2012 with a combined total of 385 years of experience, according to a human resources report.

In July, Gary Johnson retired after 31 years with the Burnaby Fire Department; Hasina Hasham retired after 34 years with the parks, recreation and cultural services department; Christine Lupia retired after 33 years with the planning and building department; Carol Martin retired after 20 years working with the engineering department and Burnaby Village Museum.

Four of the thirteen retirees left their posts in August.

Patricia Hawkins left after 22 years as a clerk; Morgan Lee left after 29 years in the engineering department; Joseph Milligan was a park patroller and left after 31 years; Patrick Flanagan retired as a fire captain after 31 years as a city employee.

Ken Crondahl was the lone retiree in September. He retired as a fire captain, as well, after 30 years of service.

Keith Furlotte retired after 24 years of service, also as a fire captain, and Leslie Strange retired after 38 years as assistant fire chief, in November.

In December, Vera Starka retired after 24 years of service.

She worked in the finance department and in information services.

Corrigan thanked the 13 retirees for their years of service to the city at the last council meeting.
