Drive with extra caution in the dark

The days may be slowly getting brighter, but ICBC is still warning drivers to proceed with caution during the winter.

The days may be slowly getting brighter, but ICBC is still warning drivers to proceed with caution during the winter.

In Metro Vancouver, the average number of crashes in which a pedestrian is injured doubles in November and December compared to July and August, according to an ICBC press release.

Last fall's pedestrian incidents across the province serve as a strong reminder that as weather conditions deteriorate, drivers and pedestrians need to be extra careful on our roads to help keep pedestrians safe.

"At this time of year, it's more important than ever for drivers to slow down and be prepared to stop for pedestrians," John Dickinson, ICBC's director of road safety, said in the release. "Pedestrians should use designated crossing points only, make eye contact with drivers and add reflective gear to clothing whenever possible. We want to help prevent these tragedies so we're urging drivers and pedestrians to use extra caution."
