Lyrics website finds a buyer

Metrolyrics site acquired by CBS Interactive group

The duo that told the world, "It's 'Hold me closer, tiny dancer' not 'hold me closer, Tony Danza'" has been rewarded for clarifying thousands of lyrics for Internet surfers since 2004.

Metrolyrics.com, started by two Simon Fraser University students, was recently bought by CBS Interactive Music Group.

It is the world's most popular lyrics website, according to a press release from the new owner.

MetroLyrics.com was the flagship property of MetroLeap Media Inc., started by SFU business school undergraduate Milun Tesovic and Alan Juristovski, who got his executive master's in business administration from the university.

Metrolyrics.com has lyrics to more than 700,000 songs and has more than 25 million unique users a month, according to the release, with nearly 12 million of those in the United States alone.

"Lyrics have been one of the most searched keywords on the Internet for several years," Juristovski, the MetroLyrics CEO, said in the release. "We have realized the power of lyrics and built the most trafficked lyrics website in the world."

The move will enhance consumers' music experience, he added, and allow MetroLyrics to pursue laser-focused innovations relevant to its core product.

The site will now include editorial material from CBS Radio stations, links to personalized streaming radio stations, access to MP3.com downloads of the day, and more.

Both Tesovic and Juristovski are active participants in SFU Venture Connection, which helps guide student entrepreneurs at the university, according to a press release from SFU.

MetroLeap Media Inc. was the first client in Venture Connection's early-stage incubator, VentureLabs.

Tesovic and Juristovski used VentureLabs' mentor services to get an outside expert review, and exit strategy and other advice from mentor-in-residence Jim Derbyshire, the release stated.

Tesovic was named SFU Student Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008.

The Burnaby NOW profiled the pair, and Metrolyrics.com, in 2008 and 2009.
