The Cosenza Club hosted its annual summer picnic in Confederation Park on Sunday.
The club’s membership is comprised of people from Cosenza, a province in the Calabrian region of southern Italy. Hundreds gathered in the park for the community’s yearly event.
“It’s just a gathering, so we’re trying to keep the heritage going,” said club president Frank Corrado.
Club members were selling plates of pasta and sausages at the picnic. The event is one of a series of fundraisers hosted by the club, which donates the proceeds to various charities.
The clubs members come from all over the Lower Mainland, and many know each from having lived in the same small towns back in Italy. The club’s objective is to keep the Italian community together, Corrado said.
