Love to play tennis and network? Young professionals who enjoy the sport and want to connect with others in their field are invited to play a match or two on Saturday, Jan. 6. at the tennis courts at 5989 Patterson Ave. The event, between 10 a.m. and noon, is all about networking over a game of tennis or squash (those games will be played at Bonsor Recreation Complex, 6550 Bonsor Ave.). Head to the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre this weekend and check out Hastings Park 1942. The exhibit puts the spotlight on early 1942, when over 8,000 Japanese Canadians were incarcerated at Hastings Park in East Vancouver before being sent to internment sites in the B.C. Interior or to work camps across the country. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is by donation.   

Take in some art this weekend at the Burnaby Art Gallery. Check out the works of Canadian painter and printmaker Sylvia Tait as her solo exhibition, Journey, winds up this weekend. The gallery, at 6344 Deer Lake Ave., is open from noon till 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is by donation. See www.burnabyartgallery.ca for more details.

Take the kids to enjoy storytime and crafts as Lougheed Town Centre hosts its weekly kids’ event on Saturday, Jan. 6. Starting at 10:30 a.m., a storyteller will entertain the children with different books, followed by a fun craft. It all takes place in front of the London Drugs. The mall is at 9855 Austin Ave.
