The coolest pub in Burnaby has been shut down for 18 months due to the impacts of COVID-19.
But now, The Study on Burnaby Mountain at Simon Fraser University, has reopened with a new menu and new hours.
The Study had been closed because the Burnaby campus of SFU has been pretty much closed to students, teachers and staff for 18 months due to COVID-19. SFU has now reopened and so The Study is too.
Located adjacent to the new student union building, The Study is a venue that also has an incredible patio with some of the best views in all of the city as it faces southwest on the mountain.
The furnishings are pretty swank - the look is distinctly retro - and the lower floor arcade area is outfitted with vintage pinball games, shuffleboard and ping pong tables.
The campus pub is operated by the Joseph Richard Group (JRG), which operates a number of public houses and restaurants in and around Metro Vancouver.
The Study will be open for now from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday as its managers monitor the weekend campus crowds.
The menu has been condensed as it continues to hire kitchen staff and will expand as time moves on.
Appetizers include yellowfin tuna tostada, king oyster mushroom “calamari” and coconut chicken. You can also get fried brussel sprouts and a trio of dips (hummus, guacamole and salsa) with veggies and spiced taro chips.
There are also three types of pizza, burgers, an Impossible burger and a Tokyo fried chicken sandwich.
You can also get mac and cheese and add things such as short ribs to it.
It’s a good sign for the UniverCity business community, which has been hit hard by a lack of students attending school on the campus. Things have changed in the past couple of weeks with a huge influx of young people as classes reopen.
