Take Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and send it through a gritty, modern crime lens and what you get is this summer's teen production from Carousel Theatre.

Burnaby teen Isaac Li, 15, will be on stage with the production in his first time out with Carousel.

This is Li's first year with the Teen Shakespeare program, but not his first time on stage.

He's been with Vancouver Youth Theatre for a year-and-a-half, and recently performed in UBC's Brave New Play Rites.

He also sings, plays saxophone and fences.

The Teen Shakespeare program at Carousel is celebrating its 21st year by tackling the famous play with a modern mob-family drama spin.

Teen actors aged 13 to 18 from across B.C. are taking part in the production, playing on the Performance Works outdoor stage on Granville Island.

The show will run July 29 to Aug. 13, with a preview show on July 28 at 7: 30 p.m. and July 29 at 2 p.m.

All other shows Monday to Saturday run at 7: 30 p.m., with matinees on Aug. 1, Aug. 6, and Aug. 13 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are free, but advance reservaions can be made at $5 per seat.
