The Burnaby Art Gallery is inviting people of all ages to get their hands on art this winter.
The gallery is offering an array of new art programs for children, families and adults, from printmaking to watercolour workshops. All the public programs have a goal of helping people to interact with the works in the exhibitions and in the city’s permanent art collection.
“Inspired by the new exhibitions at the gallery – Molly Lamb Bobak: Talk of the Town and Julie McIntyre: Travel Stories – our programs for every age explore ideas of architecture, cityscapes and storytelling and will encourage participants to use their creativity in the cosy atmosphere of the Fireside studio,” said Sara Graham, the acting fine arts programmer, in a press release.
For adults, starting Jan. 19, Scenes of Ceperley House is a workshop inspired by architectural views and cityscapes found in Lamb Bobak’s work. Participants use watercolours while drawing interior and exterior scenes of the gallery.
On Sunday, Feb. 25, participants can explore Julie McIntyre’s exhibition Travel Stories and learn visual storytelling techniques and printmaking methods directly from the artist, in a Printed Stories Workshop.
Starting Sunday, Jan. 27, children ages four to six and six to nine can take part in Super Cities, a series of classes where young creative designers explore what makes a city, creating their very own city of the future.
In Adventure Passports, starting Feb. 24, children create their own adventure passport using photographs, printmaking and stories to document their adventures.
The whole family can also get creative together on Sunday afternoons at the popular In the BAG Family Sunday series, a monthly studio drop-in sponsored by ABC Recycling. Families can take a tour of the gallery and then get into the studio for related, family-friendly art projects. On Sunday, Jan. 21, the theme is City Structures, and on Feb. 18, it will be Epic Escapades.
