Burnaby Art Gallery opens new exhibition

A new exhibition at Burnaby Art Gallery is exploring sculptural and structural works on and in paper. Volumes: Works in Paper runs Nov. 29 to Jan. 19 at the gallery. An opening reception is set for Thursday, Nov. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.

A new exhibition at Burnaby Art Gallery is exploring sculptural and structural works on and in paper.

Volumes: Works in Paper runs Nov. 29 to Jan. 19 at the gallery. An opening reception is set for Thursday, Nov. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The exhibition includes installation and large-scale printmaking, as well as painting, ceramics and paper-cut. It features works from the gallery's permanent collection by Pat Martin Bates, Myra Eadie, Bob Evermon, Margaret May, Teresa Ilene Redden, Douglas Quiring and others.

It also includes new works by emerging artists Maggie Boyd, Graham Landin, Nicole Ondre and Jennifer Rose Sciarrino.

The gallery is offering some public events in connection with the exhibition.

Among them:

* Free Family Sunday: On Sunday, Dec. 1, people of all ages are invited to join in for an interactive experience combiningthe gallery exhibition with hands-on studio activity - including making 3-D paper artwork. No registration is needed. The program runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

* Lunch BAG Day: On Saturday, Dec. 14, the gallery offers a tour and lunch, running from noon to 1 p.m. It's open to all ages. Participants will tour the exhibition with the gallery's public programmer, then enjoy lunch and sweets with tea and coffee. It's $12, and bookings must be made at least 24 hours ahead. * Walking tours: On Saturday, Jan. 11, the gallery offers free tours for all ages. Dong Yue Su will lead a Mandarin language tour from noon to 1 p.m. Then, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Judy Bae leads a Korean language tour.

The Burnaby Art Gallery is at 6344 Deer Lake Ave. It's open Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Entrance is by donation, with a suggested donation of $5.
