The Burnaby Art Gallery is reaching out into the community with new exhibitions at Burnaby Public Library branches.
The gallery is hosting two new off-site exhibitions:
* Janice Wu: At the Bob Prittie (Metrotown) library branch, at 6100 Willingdon Ave., you can check out the work of Janice Wu, which is described as a "pop-curio ethnographic study."
"I am interested in how seemingly worthless objects have the potential for whimsy and how the 'inanimate' mundane can reveal poetic and narrative possibilities," Wu says in a press release.
The release notes that she uses everyday objects - from transit receipts to candy wrappers - to create her art.
"Through reimagining the mediocre, the ordinary can become playful or even precious," Wu says. By studying personal material cultures, I hope to reveal understandings or realizations, large or small, of shared human experiences."
Wu grew up in Burnaby and earned her bachelor of fine arts degree from Emily Carr University in 2013. Check out more about her at www.janice-wu.com.
It's underway until March 31.
* Paul + Wendy Projects: Paul Van Kooy and Wendy Gomoll have been producing limited-edition prints with artists like Michael Dumontier, Neil Farber, Micah Lexier and Kay Rosen since 2007.
The exhibition will showcase a selection of these artists' works at the McGill library branch, 4595 Albert St.
Two pieces are also being displayed at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
The work is on display until April 1.
The exhibitions can be seen during library opening hours.
