The City of Burnaby has a trifecta of festive events happening for Canada Day.
The city’s July 1 offerings all share a free, family-friendly festival atmosphere, with a choice of three different locations.
Here’s the scoop:
Edmonds Park and Plaza, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Families will enjoy a day of activities including face painting, arts and crafts, multicultural entertainment and live performances from Kevin Lee, Stephen Scaccia, Rainshadow and the Halifax Wharf Rats. Edmonds Community Centre will also host a youth soccer tournament from noon to 2 p.m. and a loonie swim from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Burnaby Village Museum, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Against the backdrop of the 1920s village, families can enjoy multicultural fun including musicians, entertainers, heritage games, face painting, displays and demonstrations. You’ll be able to pose for photos with roving characters from the 1920s or with members of the Burnaby RCMP dressed in their red serge uniforms.
Swangard Stadium: Once again, the stadium is hosting a Canada Day concert and fireworks display to top off the day. The musical lineup features the Montreal indie rock band Stars, the Juno Award-nominated alternative soul singer-songwriter Nuela Charles, and the Vancouver Afro-funk-Latin-soul fusion group Coco Jafro. Arrive early to enjoy games and activities, face painting, family zone exhibitors and prize draws. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the concert at 6 p.m. and fireworks at dusk.
