A beloved Burnaby restaurant that has been feeding local diners pizzas and pastas for the past 20 years in the Brentwood area closed its doors at the end of 2021.
But 2022 will see it reborn under a new name – with a new menu - just a few blocks away.
Pasta Amore Pizzeria Ristorante closed down at the corner of Dawson Street and Willingdon Avenue as the property is set to be redeveloped into residential housing as part of a large master-planned project that will take up several city blocks.
Claudio Magagnin founded the restaurant – called an “institution” in the dining community – to “authentic-casual Italian cuisine and pizzas, driven by beautiful and locally fresh ingredients,” reads a post on the restaurant’s website. "We are inspired by simple, authentic food made with an uncompromising ethic and the joy of sharing it with friends."
That goal will be the same as Pasta Amore rebrands as Claudio’s Ristorante. Signage is already up at the Skyline Drive building in the Brentwood area. It is located just to the south of Whole Foods and sits at the base of a residential tower.
The Amore restaurant was known for its amazing pizzas, which were baked in a large brick oven. The same kind of oven will be part of Claudio’s, as well as some new menu items that people can enjoy inside or out on the restaurant’s new outdoor patio.
Personally, I’m really excited for the new restaurant, which will be in a great location. I can get groceries and then pop over for a fine lunch.
There is no firm date on when Claudio’s will open, but it seems likely to be in the spring – hopefully with no interruptions due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The Brentwood food scene is on fire right now with so many new restaurant openings - like OEB - with others coming, including a new Earl's and a three-story Tap & Barrel in the Amazing Brentwood shopping mall.
