Two men have been charged in the death of a Surrey man whose remains were found in Burnaby in August 2021.
The remains of 38-year-old Kenneth Thomas Howe were found near the 6200 block of Darnley Street west of the Burnaby Lakes Sports Complex West on Aug. 12, according to a police news release Monday.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the case when Howe’s death was deemed to be suspicious.
IHIT didn't believe Howe was involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict but said his killing appeared targeted.
Two men have now been arrested and charged in Howe's death.
John Perry Harasym, 38, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Jesse River Miller, 34, has been charged with indignity to human remains.
While Howe's remains were found in Burnaby, the murder is alleged to have happened in Surrey, according to Harasym's charge documents.
Harasym and Miller are both in custody awaiting court appearances.
Their next court date is scheduled for Dec. 20.
“We hope that this is a step to obtaining some answers for the friends and family of Kenneth Howe,” IHIT Staff Sgt. David Lee said in the release.
Lee said no more details would be released as the case is now before the courts.
