A second Burnaby resident was among thousands of Canadians to receive a King Charles III coronation medal.

Richard Liu founded the Canadian Alumni Network, a group that connects alumni in China who attended Canadian post-secondary institutions.

Liu received his medal during a special ceremony on Feb. 2 at the Ismaili Centre Vancouver, located in Burnaby.

The medals were presented by Honourable Senators Mobina Jaffer, Bevery Busson and Yuen Pau Woo.

King Charles III coronation medals are awarded to individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to their communities and shown commitment to the betterment of society.

"Profoundly honoured and grateful for the nomination by Senator Woo, and to be a recipient among the 30,000 dedicated Canadians who serve our communities across B.C. and Canada and to attend the medal ceremony in my hometown of Burnaby," Liu told the NOW.

Burnaby resident Charlie Grahn also recently received the King Charles III coronation medal for his volunteer efforts with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
