An arrest warrant has been issued for a Vancouver woman who allegedly tripped an 84-year-old stranger to the ground near a Burnaby SkyTrain station two years ago.
Hayun Song, 32, was released on bail in February 2021 after being charged with assault causing bodily harm in relation to an April 3, 2020 incident just outside the Metrotown station.
Her release order required her to report as directed to a bail supervisor and to attend forensic psychiatric services.
On Tuesday, a warrant was put out for her arrest on the grounds she had failed to comply with the order.
Her lawyer, Chester Bridal appeared in Vancouver provincial court on her behalf Wednesday inquiring whether she could avoid being arrested if she appeared in court.
Provincial court Judge Jennifer Oulton said he would have to figure that out in bail court but warned, until then, Song could be picked up by police and held overnight.
“It is a serious breach in the Crown’s view,” she said. “The forensic (psychiatric reporting) is a very important term of her release given these allegations and given the fact these were strangers.”
A video of the April 3, 2020 incident released by Burnaby RCMP showed an 84-year-old woman with a walker making her way toward the Metrotown station.
Another woman walking toward the station could then been seen suddenly changing direction, walking towards her and apparently tripping her from behind.
The woman then walked away as the elderly woman fell to the ground.
Song has also been charged with assault for an incident involving another stranger on Feb. 6, 2021.
Her next court date is set for May 18 in Vancouver provincial court.
