Baljinder Narang is a Burnaby Citizens Association candidate seeking re-election as a school trustee:
Baljinder Narang was born in Uganda and after having lived in India, England and Zambia, she moved to Canada's east coast with her husband and young family where she attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, graduating with a master's degree in health education. When the family moved to B.C. in 1994, it was Burnaby's excellent public school system that attracted them to the city they have called home ever since.
Now 57, Baljinder's three children have all graduated from Burnaby South Secondary.
Baljinder worked her professional career as an occupational therapist specializing in community rehabilitation and drug and alcohol counselling. Her community participation has been a benefit to many organizations, including Burnaby South parent advisory council, Burnaby Community Policing Committee, Royal Oak Advisory Committee and Learning Support Services Advisory Committee.
First elected as a school trustee in 2008, Baljinder is passionate about maintaining a vibrant public school system. She strongly believes that in any civil society, fully funded public education is every child's inherent right and that school trustees are the ideal custodians for this invaluable public resource.
Baljinder has a deep appreciation and understanding of the need to keep an open mind that allows different viewpoints to be taken into consideration before making a decision. She feels that while this approach may be time consuming, it is the only way to operate as it allows objectivity and fairness. In asking for your support for re-election, Baljinder says, "I believe we have worked hard to ensure Burnaby schools are the best they can be and I would like an opportunity to continue doing the same for the next three years."
