The B.C. high school track and field championships at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby will take place as planned.
The decision came from B.C. School Sports sports administrator Christine Bradstock Thursday, reaffirming that the 46th annual championship meet will proceed as scheduled on June 1 and 2.
"The (B.C. high school track and field) commission made the decision through consultation with the schools through the province that they had enough bodies to move forward," said Bradstock. "They looked at the situation and the 46th annual B.C. high school track and field championships is on for June 1 and 2 at Swangard Stadium."
Commission president Gordon Donnelly also confirmed the decision.
"The commission has done a thorough analysis of the status of track and field in the province," said Donnelly in an e-mail to the Burnaby NOW. Results indicate that we will have a viable and successful 46th annual championships on June 1 and 2."
While Bradstock was unable to say whether the provincial championship would follow the exact program of last year's championship, Donnelly added this year's meet will offer all 42 events, including the boys' decathlon and girls' pentathlon combined multi-events held a week earlier on May 25 and 26 at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford.
"We have to pull together in order to make this championships a successful experience for the athletes," Donnelly said.
"I'm thrilled its going forward," Bradstock added. "There are athletes that want to attend and compete."
