POWER OUT

Retired RCMP officer Ray Power is now retiring from politics, as well.

Power let the NOW know of his decision in an email on April 16.

"At 65, it's time for me to move on and spend my time doing more productive things," he wrote. "The time and energy required to fulfil my obligations in the political area have gone beyond my capacity at this time."

Power intends to continue to share his opinions as a Burnaby resident, he said, adding he has been politically active for 35 years.

Power was TEAM Burnaby's president following the November 2011 civic election, when he ran as a council candidate for the party. He ran in the 2006 federal election for the Green Party in the Burnaby-Douglas riding, in the 1997 federal election for the Progressive Conservatives in the same riding, and also ran for mayor in both Burnaby - with the Burnaby Voters Non-Partisan Association - and in Vancouver, as an independent.
