Best Buy Canada announced today that the company is cutting 950 full-time positions at its Best Buy and Future Shop locations across the country.
"Decisions that impact our people are never easy and we make them with our customers, employees and corporate values in mind," Ron Wilson, president and COO of Best Buy Canada, said in a press release. "I want to express my appreciation to all of our employees who are leaving for the contributions they have made to Best Buy Canada."
The employees affected have been notified and given severance packages, access to an employee assistance program and outplacement services to help them find new employment, according to the release.
The decision is part of the company's restructuring plan, which includes consolidating sales departments and "reducing management layers," the release stated.
Best Buy Canada has a Best Buy at Metrotown in Burnaby, as well as two Best Buy Mobile specialty store locations in the city, at Lougheed Town Centre and Metropolis at Metrotown.
