Bundle up, Burnaby — cold and snow are heading our way

We're going to shiver our way into weekend snow.

Look out, Burnaby, winter is back — with windchills set to dip as low as -13C, and snow coming this weekend.

You’re not wrong: it’s cold out there.

The Arctic air that’s settling over B.C. has brought cold temperatures to the whole province — and Metro Vancouver isn’t escaping.

Though we’re not going to come anywhere near the -24 C that’s being experienced in Prince George as we speak, Burnaby folks woke up to below-freezing temperatures (with thermometers seeing around -4C, depending where you live).

The Weather Network reports that it’s expected to warm up to just 1 C today, with northeasterly winds continuing to bite through and make it feel like -3 C.  Expect it to get even colder tonight, as the mercury drops to -7 C with a windchill of  -13 C.

We’ll start tomorrow morning (Friday) with temperatures of -6C, feeling like -11, warming up to 0 C in the afternoon under mainly sunny skies (but still feeling like -2 C).

As for the weekend? Well, if you’ve been tuning in to weather forecasts this week, you’ll already know what I’m going to say. Yes, we’re expecting snow on Saturday, with light snow in the afternoon and more snow in the evening (10 to 15 cm all told).

Sunday will see more snow as temperatures warm up to 4 C, with another 1 to 3 cm of snow possible — and we're heading into next week with more of the white stuff, as the forecast calls for mixed precipitation again both Monday and Tuesday.

So keep those mitts and hats handy for awhile yet. Maybe we really are in for an extended winter, just like Shubenacadie Sam said.
