A Burnaby company was one of two recently approved to run ride-hailing services in the province.
Bonny’s Taxi, based on Sidley Street in Burnaby, was approved on May 13 to operate a ride-hailing service in just one region of the province, which stretches from Whistler to the Lower Mainland. The other approved company, Ripe Rides from Vancouver, was approved for all five regions in the province.
Bonny’s staked part of its claim that Burnaby was in need of a ride-hailing service on the number of people using its taxi app that is already in place.
“Recent and anticipated future residential and commercial developments in Burnaby also demonstrate growth in Burnaby,” reads a Passenger Transportation Board decision.
Bonny’s was also able to persuade the PTB it would be viable as a ride-hailing company, demonstrating that it was able to invest in new tech upgrades to run a ride-hailing app.
