A City of Burnaby council hopeful says he is refusing monetary support ahead of the city byelection.

"I feel that self-funding my own campaign is the best way to preserve the integrity of my political views if elected," Kendell says in a news release.

"By saying no to all monetary campaign donations, this allows me to avoid owing favours to building developers and union-related organizations.

"This also gives me time to listen to Burnaby residents and listen to their thoughts about living in our great community."

Kendell announced his official platform on May 18. It includes:

  • Affordable and sustainable housing
  • Safe and clean playgrounds and parks
  • Better delivery of city services
  • A crackdown on illegal dumping
  • Greater accountability of city spending
  • Transitioning towards green energy solutions

The Burnaby byelection is scheduled for June 26 as General Voting Day and Advance Voting Dates are June 12 and 14-19, 2021.
