Take photos with your favourite heavy duty vehicle at the City of Burnaby's grand opening of the Laurel Street Works Yard.
The city's festivities Saturday, May 25 in honour of National Public Works Week will include fun activities at the works yard, such as kids' construction play areas, a photo zone with heavy equipment and live demonstrations in the welding and carpentry shops.
There will also be face-painting and live music.
The Burnaby Fire Department will host a barbecue by donation (while supplies last) with proceeds going towards the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Association.
'A little bit of everything' at new works yard
The Laurel Street Works Yard is home to "a little bit of everything," said public works director Erik Schmidt in a virtual tour video by the city.
City technicians work in welding, paint and carpentry shops to build and repair city equipment ranging from benches, signs and fences to heavy duty vehicles.
The works yard has 14 bays for big machines and multiple lifts to allow staff to fix up heavy equipment like snow plows and packer blades, according to the virtual tour.
The works yard, which operates 24-7, is also home to the city's emergency operations and data centre, which is designed to respond in real time to any emergency in Burnaby.
