BC NDP MLA candidate for Burnaby Centre

Short biography

Anne Kang is the BCNDP candidate for Burnaby Centre. She is dedicated to making life better for families with a focus on affordable housing, strong healthcare, and good education. She immigrated from Taiwan over 35 years ago and has been an active community volunteer since she was eight. Anne’s experience as a three-term Burnaby City Councillor and her roles as Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Training show her commitment to the people of British Columbia, to Burnaby, and to public service.

As a former teacher and mother of two teenagers, Anne understands the importance of accessible child care and is a strong advocate for better schools and healthcare in Burnaby. Her dedication to the community earned her the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.

Anne Kang is fighting for everyday people, making sure everyone in Burnaby Centre has the support they need to build a good life. She is working with David Eby and the BC NDP to lower costs, improve healthcare, and ensure that regular people, like you and me, have a fair shot.

Why are you running for provincial office?

Burnaby has been my home for over 30 years, and I love my community. It has given me so much, and I want to give back      in any way that I can. I served on Burnaby City Council for three terms, and during that time, we worked with the previous government on plans to build a new Burnaby Hospital. Again, and again, Burnaby citizens were disappointed with the empty promises and inaction. Similarly, we saw the rise of the housing crisis, health crisis, and underfunding of our education system. I put my name forward to run provincially so that I can make a difference on issues that matter to our community.

What are the top three issues facing Burnaby today and what are your plans to address them?

The candidate did not provide an answer to this question.

What is your housing situation? Are you a homeowner, renter or something else (describe)? Do you own your rental property/properties?

I am currently a homeowner.
