Burnaby considers expropriating industrial land for new Holdom overpass

Burnaby staff are recommending expropriating part of a property at 5595 Roy St.

City of Burnaby staff are recommending a plan to expropriate a portion of industrial land, which they say is necessary to build the Holdom overpass.

The land in question is about half the size of an American football field on the eastern portion of a 2.2-acre property at 5595 Roy St., just south of Revs Bowling, bordering Holdom Avenue.

The land is owned by numbered company 1044451 B.C. Ltd.

The city has already initiated the expropriation of the desired land by serving a notice to the owner and posting a sign on the land containing a summary of the notice.

The Holdom overpass is intended to improve trade flows in the region and increase safety for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency first responders at the "very, very busy" Douglas Road crossing, according to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, which runs the project.

Council will vote on the matter at its meeting Monday, Sept. 9.
