Burnaby Coun. Sav Dhaliwal named Metro chair of Indigenous relations committee

The 2025 Metro Vancouver Board consists of 15 standing committees and one task force that represent the 21 member municipalities, Electoral Area A and Tsawwassen First Nation.

A Burnaby city councillor has been named a chair among Metro Vancouver's standing committees for 2025. 

Burnaby Coun. Sav Dhaliwal was chosen to chair the Indigenous Relations committee, appointed by board chair and Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley. 

Metro Vancouver revealed the standing committee, task force structure and appointments for next year. 

The board has 15 standing committees and one task force that represent the 21 member municipalities, Electoral Area A and Tsawwassen First Nation. 

Standing committees are responsible for considering priorities, policies and activities for the organization and provide advice as well as recommendations to the board. 

“The elected officials who sit on Metro Vancouver’s committees play an important role in ensuring our organization is making the best possible decisions for the region," Hurley said in a news release. 

"As we go into the new year, I am looking forward to seeing continued leadership from each of these committees as we seek to deliver our services at the highest and best value for our residents."

The full list of 2025 committees and chairs are: 

  • Air Quality and Climate: Chair Lisa Dominato (Councillor, City of Vancouver)
  • Caucus of Committee Chairs: Chair Mike Hurley (Mayor, City of Burnaby and Chair, Metro Vancouver)
  • Electoral Area and Small Communities: Chair Jen McCutcheon (Director, Electoral Area A)
  • Finance: Chair Pardeep Kooner (Councillor, City of Surrey)
  • Flood Resiliency: Chair Dylan Kruger (Councillor, City of Delta)
  • Housing: Chair Dan Ruimy (Mayor, City of Maple Ridge)
  • Indigenous Relations: Chair Sav Dhaliwal (Councillor, City of Burnaby)
  • Invest Vancouver Management Board: Chair Linda Buchanan (Mayor, City of North Vancouver)
  • Liquid Waste: Chair Malcolm Brodie (Mayor, City of Richmond)
  • Mayors: Chair Brenda Locke (Mayor, City of Surrey)
  • Regional Culture: Chair Lisa Muri (Councillor, District of North Vancouver)
