Canada Soccer has chosen 100 organizations across the country to earn funding to host its spring Free Kicks – Try It event.
Burnaby FC is one of them.
The black and gold will welcome new-to-Canada footballers to test their skills and celebrate inclusion at a camp set to be scheduled some time before May 31.
The club is receiving a $1,000 slice of a $100,000 pot as part of Canada Soccer's grassroots development grants and the Government of Canada’s Community Sport for All initiative.
“Through Canada Soccer’s Free Kicks – Try It Events, clubs from coast to coast across the nation have been encouraged to promote a safe, fun and welcoming environment for new-to-Canada participants in the beautiful game," said Canada Soccer president Charmaine Crooks in a news release.
"With more than $1.2-million invested back into our sport through the support of the Government of Canada, Canada Soccer can help build upon programs that support our youth, coaches, referees and emerging leaders so that they can be positively impacted and grow within the sport they love."
Burnaby FC was one of 15 organizations based in B.C. to earn the grant.
