Burnaby City Coun. Joe Keithley receives a $10,000 cheque from Burnaby firefighters for the Harmony for All charity.

A community music program in Burnaby has received a big boost — $10,000 to be exact.

Harmony for All, started by Coun. Joe Keithley, helps residents who can't afford musical instruments and lessons or experience barriers to participation.

The initiative aims to connect people through music, promote positive interactions and build stronger communities.

Instruments include acoustic guitars, electric guitars and basses with amplifiers, drum kits, ukuleles, saxophones, keyboards and synthesizers, clarinets, flutes, trumpets, trombones, violins and accordions.

In a social media post on Wednesday (Sept. 14), Keithley is holding up a $10,000 cheque with members of the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society.

"Great news: just picked up a $10,000 donation from the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Association that will go to the music charity Harmony for All that I started," he wrote.

"This charity gets musical instruments and lessons to those in Burnaby that otherwise would not have the opportunity. Here I am at Firehall #3 getting the cheque, thanks so much."
